We compared the cost-effectiveness of three screening strategies (tone-emitting otoscope, hearing handicap questionnaire, and both together) against no screening (control group) in 2,251 older veterans. The effectiveness measure for each group was the proportion of hearing aid use 1 year after screening.

May 01, 2018· RESULTS: In a hypothetical cohort of 1000 students, screening using the TST-alone strategy averted 1.6 TB cases at a total cost of US$52 566. The QFT-GIT-alone strategy helped avert 2.0 TB cases, but was associated with a much higher total cost (US$108 435), resulting in an incremental cost-effectiveness ratio of US$140 933/TB case averted.

The Hepatitis C Cost-Effectiveness model is a stochastic microsimulation model that has been previously used to investigate the cost-effectiveness of various strategies for testing for hepatitis C. 10,14 The model generates a cohort of hypothetical individuals, follows them through the remainder of their life course, and records important
Influence of patient preferences on the cost-effectiveness
Screening for Lynch syndrome in the population is likely to yield long-term gains in life expectancy that outweigh any short-term decreases in QoL, at acceptable costs. Counseling for individuals should aim to mitigate potential negative impact of genetic testing and risk-reducing interventions on Q
Long-Term Outcomes and Cost-Effectiveness of Breast Cancer
Long-term screening outcomes were compared for two screening scenarios: screening with DM alone and screening with DBT in all women participating in breast cancer screening starting in 2011. We assumed that future patterns of screening use, breast density distribution, and adjuvant therapy use and effectiveness remained the same as in 2011.

Background Migrants account for a large and growing proportion of tuberculosis (TB) cases in low-incidence countries in the European Union/European Economic Area (EU/EEA) which are primarily due to reactivation of latent TB infection (LTBI). Addressing LTBI among migrants will be critical to achieve TB elimination. Methods: We conducted a systematic review to determine effectiveness

Cost-effectiveness of screening for HIV in primary care: a
Screening for HIV in primary care has important public health benefits as well as clinical benefits. We predict it to be cost-effective in the UK in the medium term. However, this intervention might be cost-effective far sooner, and even cost-saving, in settings where long-term health-care costs of late-diagnosed patients in high-prevalence regions are much higher (≥60%) than those of
Cost-effectiveness analysis of programmatic screening
Mar 23, 2018· The elimination of tuberculosis (TB) in Europe will require the management of latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI) in key populations. Management of LTBI requires the identification and adequate treatment of infected people. It is currently unknown how screening and treatment of key populations should be best organised to have the highest impact with the available resources.
Testing Guidelines for Nursing Homes CDC
Oct 16, 2020· Nursing home residents are at high risk for infection, serious illness, and death from COVID-19. Testing for SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, in respiratory specimens can detect current infections (referred to here as viral testing) among residents in nursing homes.Viral testing of residents in nursing homes, with authorized nucleic acid or antigen detection assays, is an
Comprehensive Cost-Utility Analysis of Newborn Screening
BACKGROUND. Inborn errors of metabolism are a significant cause of morbidity and death among children. Inconsistencies in how individual states arrive at screening strategies, however, lead to marked variations in testing between states. OBJECTIVE. To determine the cost-effectiveness of each component test of a multitest newborn screening program, including screening for phenylketonuria
A cost-effectiveness analysis of prenatal screening

When an incremental analysis was performed (data not shown), the cost-effectiveness results suggested that the preferred strategy was ISS because cheaper options such as NT alone, FSS or NTSS had lower DS detection rates and higher numbers of procedure-related losses.

Jul 31, 2020· In this study, we assessed the cost-effectiveness of three different strategies for screening diabetic retinopathy: (1) using a personalized approach for screening (2) using annual screening and (3) using Dutch guideline for screening diabetic retinopathy. We found that personalized screening is more cost-effective than Dutch guideline.
Long-term evaluation of benefits, harms, and cost
The NBCSP has potential to save 83 800 lives over the period 2015–40 if coverage rates can be increased to 60%. By contrast, the associated harms, although an important consideration, are at a smaller magnitude at the population level. The programme is highly cost-effective and within a decade of full roll-out, there will be reduced annual health systems expenditure on colorectal cancer

Conclusion Screening for M tuberculosis infection and provision of IPT in young children is a highly cost-effective intervention. Screening without testing for M tuberculosis infection is the most cost-effective strategy in 0–2-year-old children and the preferred strategy in 3–5-year-old children. Lack of testing capacity should therefore not be a barrier to IPT delivery.
